Ford Motor Co. of Canada Ltd., said it led all auto makers in the country in sales last month with a 29-per-cent increase.
"Sales crowns are nice to have but we remain focused on sustainable growth,' president says after 29-per-cent growth in March"
“Sales crowns are nice to have but we remain focused on sustainable growth by delivering what customers want and value,” Ford Canada president David Mondragon said in a statement.
Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. said its sales rose 25 per cent to mark the 14th consecutive month of year-over-year increases.
Chrysler Canada Inc. posted a sales gain of 22 per cent, but was edged out for the No. 2 slot behind Ford by Toyota Canada Inc., which saw sales rise 25 per cent.
Sales for General Motors of Canada Ltd. slumped 22 per cent to knock it down to fourth in the sales race.
Record performances by the Ram pickup truck and the Journey crossover utility vehicle contributed to the Chrysler performance, said company president Reid Bigland, who noted that the positive months experienced by Chrysler and other auto makers underline a strengthening recovery in the Canadian economy.
“There's a general industry pickup,” Mr. Bigland said in an interview. “The economy is definitely coming back.”
